Geoff Ritchie is Vice-Chair and General Counsel at Mawer Investment Management Ltd., which he joined in 2016. In this role, he leads the Legal, Risk & Compliance team, responsible for legal, compliance, risk, governance and corporate affairs. He is also a member of Mawer's Executive team which drives the development and execution of the firm’s strategic plans. 

Mr. Ritchie has held senior legal and compliance roles in the investment counselling, asset management, banking, and trust industry, including: General Counsel of Zenbanx, a U.S.-based financial technology company; Chief Compliance Officer for BMO Harris Private Banking (Canada and Asia); Chief Compliance Officer for BMO Trust Company and BMO Global Asset Management; and has practiced law with WeirFoulds LLP in corporate finance, Clifford Chance LLP in London, England in structured finance, as well as with the Ontario Securities Commission in regulatory policy and securities compliance.

Mr. Ritchie is a faculty member and instructor for the “Regulatory Compliance and Legal Risk Management for Financial Institutions” program at Osgoode Hall Law School’s Professional Development Program for the past 8 years and was its Program Director for 3 years. Previously he has taught Advanced Securities Law at Queen’s University for 3 years and lead the Private Capital Markets Association of Canada as its Vice Chair and founding Executive Director for 7 years.

Mr. Ritchie is an active volunteer in his community, including for the past 5 years having served as a Director and then Chair of the Board of Directors for the William Osler Health System, one of Canada’s largest community hospital systems that serves 1.3 million people and operates three hospitals across 5 campuses: Brampton Civic Hospital, Etobicoke General Hospital and Peel Memorial. 

Mr. Ritchie is a graduate of McMaster University (BA), Queen’s University (JD), Osgoode Hall Law School (LL.M), and the Rotman School of Management (DEP) and holds an ICD.D from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
